How Do You Get Status Updates Back On Facebook Instead Of News Feeds?

The new facebook layout that appeared in early february 2010 came with a little problem. It took away its status updates, now all there is, is news feeds and other boring stuff. Is there a way to get status updates back or are they gone for good?
