Carentan O Carentan Poem

This poem was written by the soldier/Poet Louis Simpson. He was in the 101st. Air Force Division during the invasion of Normandy France. This is a chilling yet eerily beautiful poem about the events that happened on that day. I was inspired to read this poem from actor/soldier Charles Durning who also served on that day.Mr. Durnings distinguished career earned him 3 Silver Stars and 1 Purple Heart medals. He holds the distinction as the highest award winning veteran actor since Audie Murphy.Only twice has he talked about this day once in the documentary " Normandy The Great Escape " the other 1995 at a PBS Veterans ceremony.
